| Just thought I'd take a poll about local flying clubs, since I'm curious how we all fly. | |

| I would but talk myself out of it. Nobody fly's helis here. There is 2 local clubs with fly'n sites and they are all for gas plane guys. I have never even seen someone else fly a heli in person. Its too bad...Maybe when I move out of this crappy city I will end up somewhere that has some RC Heli population. | |

I'm a AMA member for the third option. However the field is about 45 minutes across the city, and it's a hassle to drive all the way out for a couple flights. Also most "guest" AMA members (non local club members) are capped on number of times they can use the field. When I visit relatives in Southern Alabama, they have a local field, as well as a real Naval Training field they fly on... happens to be about 5 minutes down the road. http://www.sarcmc.snclan.net/515.html

| I am planning on joining once I get some more experience under my belt. To join our local club (Lorain County Radio Control Club), you have to be an AMA member first, then have to be able to prove your heli skills before being able to leave the helipad area. The time, and fees (totalling about $125), will come... | |

The time, and fees (totalling about $125), will come... A lot of clubs are like that... You have to have a trainer authorize you to even be able to fly alone on their club field. Although safety is in their best interest, it is annoying; coupled with yearly club dues over $100, it is a huge deterrent for those who already know how to fly. And why local clubs only make a small percentage of the aeromodelers out there.
