PostSubject: E-SKY 0704B Gyro & Tail Servo setting questions...   Thu Oct 01, 2009 11:30 am

Guys,
When I went out to do a little practice with my Belt CP v2 last night (the clouds had parted, the wind had died, and the sun was out for maybe 20 minutes), I started up like normal: TX on, plugged in battery to ESC, waited while gyro initialized (steady fast flashing to solid red), then proceeded to spin up and work on my hovering...

After a few up and down hops (not sure EXACTLY how many, but only after a few), I noticed that the LED on my gyro was flashing again. Not as fast as when it is initializing, but more like a heart beat (blink, blink, pause - blink, blink, pause).

I don't see anything in my Belt CP v2 users manual about this flashing pattern, so if anyone knows what this means, please enighten me...

BTW - since I am having other tail rotor / Head Locking issues, I did not see any difference in performance. But then again I cannot get the head to lock correctly either (getting a slow rotation counter-clockwise).

However, I may have found my problem in regards to my overall tail servo setup problem, but want to run it by you all...

When it is in 1 the gyro is working in rate mode. So try to fly your heli in rate mode. If nose still yaws, lose 2 screws that holds tail servo mount to the boom and move it a little bit to right. If nose yaws even more, move it to the left. And move servo mount till nose stops yawing

When I rebuilt my tail boom assembly, I set my TX to rudder-center, with center trim and the servo at 90deg. I then moved the servo to get 0 pitch on the tail rotor blades (90deg means no pitch, right? headbeat ).
I am NOW understanding that this is wrong... I mean REALLY wrong. noob And most of all I can understand WHY it is wrong... At servo 90deg, the tail blade pitch should be adjusted to counteract the main rotor rotation naturally. OK - Got it! Now to test it tonight (praying for good weather...).

And another question about the 704B gyro, its POTs and the gain knob on the TX...
I read through another older thread where I think it was FD, P3TRAS, and maybe Nuttzy were 'discussing' the different 'options' offered from the different configurations of gyro settings. Let me know if this sounds right:
TX Gyro switch to 0 = Head Hold mode
TX Gyro switch to 1 = Rate Mode
TX Gain knob at full (-) = Gyro off (?)

The last one I am not sure about, and it sounds like is a matter of conjecture. Does turning the gain knob all the way down turn the gyro OFF? Or set it into RATE? All I know is that the LED turns off when gain is all the way down. I'm not so sure that it is THAT important to me right now, but was just wondering...

Thanks as always for your help!

when you were flying, did you touch the rudder trim? This causes to blink the gyro. what you should do, is unplug the heli, turn yout tx off then restart the whole process. on the pot, you should be more than 50% to get a solid light , meaning you're in the hh mode.

Yeah, I was trying to work the rotation out by sliding the trim over. How does that affect the gyro setting?

On the ESKY gyro anytime you give any imput to the tail rotor, the light on the gyro will blink.
Now to stop your drift, Set gain down low light off I think, you will be in rate mode.. Bring to hover, observe direction of rotation.. Land..Move tail servo either forward or backward tiny bits at a time till you get no rotation. Increase Gain and light comes on and you will be in HH mode..
Good luck!!

Thanks for the info, guys. When I got home, I did as instructed. I loosened the servo and made the adjustment, increasing my tail rotor pitch at 90 deg servo. It took me a few back-and-forth movements to get the tail to hold pretty close in RATE, but I finally got it! :bigthumb:

And man, it was no joke to try to zero in on that magic spot. A hair either way, and the nose would change direction. angry032

But after that I was able to fly (hover) out the rest of my battery, with only minimal rudder input once I was in the air! fly high

So is my HH holding perfect? Prolly not. But it is a LOT better than it was before. Now I will have to see if I can narrow it down a little more.

Next step (which I haven't gotten to yet) is to check the belt tension. It may be a bit TOO tight (I know it isn't loose), but will check it later tonight when I check / tighten the rest of the screws.

No it is not!! You should be able to switch back and forth while in flight even... I think you need to set up the gyro/tail servo.. In rate mode move servo forward or back on the boom to stop the spin.. Then move it in tiny bits to stop any drift.. Then you should be ok..
Make sure you have centered your trim!!

Yeah Jacky,
Gyro gain knob all the way to - (counter clockwise) =gyro off (not rate mode)
Gyro gain should be set at around 10 o'clock :bigthumb:

PostSubject: MY GYRO   Sun Oct 04, 2009 10:25 pm

I think you could be right!! I don't think gyros swim real well!!
I use the Logictech 2100T for all my helis. I use the matching 3100G servo on everything up 450 class and a Ino-Lab HG-D261HB on everything 500 and up!! I'm using the 2100T with a Spcktrum DS821 on my "G" !! All the combos work GREAT!!!! The 2100T it a kick censored gyro and I don't think you could do any better even for twice the price!!!

if you want really good tail like the 611, get the gy401 with the 9257 servo

Everything I've read bout the Gyro's says the 2100T exceeds the 401 easily, for like half the cost.. And approaches the 611!!
The 2100T/3100G combo is available at HeliProz for $109.00
But this just one more reason that there are so many gyros on the market,, to each his own...

I pay 109.00 from Heliproz.com and that includes the 3100G servo..The gyro alone is 104.00 from most anywhere.. I'm not sure why HeliProz sells the combo so cheap otherwise its around 160.
I bought the last one on EBAY for 70!!.. I know a guy I also can get them from also for around 75.
they just recently started coming black in color. They had been like a goldish..
If you decide to go that way I can check to see if my friend has any...he doesn't useally have the combo pack, just the gyro. I did just get one from him for 75
