PostSubject: Blades untrackable..what's wrong?   Blades untrackable..what's wrong? I_icon_minitimeSat Oct 17, 2009 6:16 pm

I've spent a frustrating hour trying to track my blades.

I can get them to move..one will be higher or lower than the other. But I cannot get it on. I just can't get them to track evenly. I balanced the blades, they should track.

What could be going on? It seems like I get it close then I make one little twist and it's waaay off, either blade.

Hey Grasshopper, the stock blades suck and don't track worth a crap IMO, I am running the Century carbon filber blades and they are perfect, but they arn't making them anymore from what Heli-world told me. But the good news is Nuttz has found a good set from Super skids for cheap. I'm going to buy them next, my c/f blades are starting to look bad, I was crashing a lot at first, but they still track perfect.

If I was able to post pics I could show you what pretty carbon fiber blades with lots of road rash looks like laughing013

Also it is better to pick one blade and try to do all of your tracking adjustment on it instead of going back and fourth betweeen both blades.

Also, a bent feathering shaft will make it virtually impossable to track the blades.

Where is the "Feathering shaft" located and how do I tell at a glance if it's bent?

Thanks for the tips. I tracked the stock blades before ok but scraped one up and replaced it and now I can't seem to get it easily.

Sorry guys, that's my fault. I didn't read the whole post, and when I saw the reference to blade tracking problems, I thought he was talking about a CP heli. Sorry about that.

Just the C/F blades here, the only metal on my heli other than stock stuff is the paper clip for the skids....I can swap out anything on the head assembly pretty easy, I think if I go with metal head parts then it will find other weak links to break. Plus I may have went over board when Nuttz said to get spare parts because I bought about $100.00 worth of spare parts, good thing is I havn't had to wait on parts so far, I just reorder like a parts vendor would... :chickendance: :chickendance: :chickendance:

PostSubject: Bad Tracking = Unhappy Heli   Blades untrackable..what's wrong? I_icon_minitimeSun Oct 18, 2009 2:22 am

I just got back in from outside and I simply am not able to track these blades. There is a slight nick in the end of one of them and I suspect that or the fact I only have one ring like connector on right now. The tracking tape is kind of coming up also, which might be doing something...will switch to whiteout when I get a new set of blades.

What I noticed is that it takes a lot more throttle to get airborne with bad tracking, however there is a rather scary effect that happens when you decrease throttle to go down... It goes up, presumably because the blades don't "separate" at the lower RPM and produce more lift. I've eyeballed it and sure enough the blades track until about 50% throttle then one always lifts higher than the other.

Another valuable lesson learned. I should say however that I did get the stock blades tracked before they were nicked and so beginners should not be discouraged from trying out their heli with them. But yes, I want carbon fiber blades or good wooden ones...anything that is better and will make it more stable, without being to expensive.

This is my suggestion:
1. Mark one blade with white
2. Twist both blade
3. Throttle up, and see if the blade track
4. If they're not track, twist only the lower blade. Don't do anything with the higher blade.

If the difference is around 5-7 mm, its should ok. You cannot make it perfect. Sometime at 50% throttle the white mark blade is lower, but at full throttle, its higher.
Why? I don't have the answer

Just an idea.....

How are your blades in rest. After 7 LiPo's mine were coming upwards a little in the tips.

Then I looked at the blade connector at the top of the heli and noticed that the head was also curved up a little.

I made a head stiffener and added it and it was easier to make a good blade track.
http://www.eflightwiki.com/eflightwiki/index.php?title=HoneyBeeFP#Head_stiffener

Well I am a newbee and cannot say for sure that stiffening my head resulted in a better blade track.

All I am sure about is that after adding it I was able to give it a great tracking.

Just give it a try.

Nuttz highly recommended the C/F blades. I was having a hole lot of problems trying to track stock blades that I even started swapping blades around from different packs and using the highest tracking blades to help (took a lot to balance blades from diff. packs, I have about 5 sets of stock blades) track good, not whorth it at all.
When I got my c/f blades and checked them they were perfectly balanced and track perfect, even after soooo many crashes they still are banaced and track great, (they are beat to death though, I even hit a pole with them and broke the head in half and blades are still tracking great) But since they are not making these right now I am thinking of getting the new super skids blades that Marc is talking about, look great but I just hope thay hold up to crashes :crylaugh:

I have never used wood blades, don't think they would hold up under my type of flying (aka crashing).
A battle between wood and very hard driveway orange78 I think hard driveway will always win... :crylaugh:

nope, its impossible to have too many replacement parts, I plan on ordering up about $150-$200 worth of spares this coming friday. There is nothing worse then crashing and then having to wait to fix your heli until your replacement parts come in the mail.

you should check out the Super Blades, apart from the Carbon Fiber Blades (best of all time) which aren't being made anymore, These new Super Blades are the only Blades I recommend for the HBFP. The woodies suck IMO, been there done that have the pics to prove it, lol. Just don't get caught up with modding the HBFP V2, it won't make it fly better but it will cost more when it crashes :crylaugh:

I just sent heli world another e-mail telling them that its been over a month now and they are still showing the c/f blades as sold out, they need to remove them if not making them anymore. You would think that these online sites would look at there on sites sometimes and up date them Grrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!! redface

Marc, how do you think the new ss blades will hold up in crashes lol, the c/f hold up very well so far, just woundering if I should order just 1 set or 2 or 3 just in case of crash. I'm hovering a lot better now but still a lot of wind here so I do still crash some.

I haven't crash tested mine yet but from the reports from the other guys on RCGroups that are using them are that they hold up very well in crashes. I think they will too, they're a good design.

Thanks Marc, You may be one of the top technical guys here but I think I may be one of the top crash test dummies :crylaugh: :crylaugh: :crylaugh: laughing013 laughing013

But seriously, you are a huge help to all of us and thank you again for that.

Well its blowing about 7-10 mph winds here and cold, time to go try to fly some more :prop: . Good thing I have a lot of spare parts....

I am pretty sure that those skids are from king2 and they are screwed to guru z neon frame :grinn: I also heard that those blades are pretty good, better than stock. But it is not my personal experience. I didn't have or see them

That was indeed the problem. One blade was curved up at the tip and no amount of bending would get it to track lower....at least when pushed to high speed. I could get the other blade to track higher but as soon as I pushed it wide open the blades would change position. Weird.
I could not tell if the blade connector was curved, however I might replace it "just in case."

My copter suffered from a case of bad tracking and a slight breeze and overdosed on brick wall..never try to hover with bad tracking! So since I have to replace the blades, paddles and flybar, I will go with those from Super Skids. I'm just glad nobody was around to see it!
