Newby progress...check your transmitter

Well, I must say, I am very happy with my new 1000mah batteries and their performance. The weight does not seem to be an issue at all and I'm getting about 10 min of flight out of them (each). Did a lot of flying tonight. Got bored with hovers and moving forward, backward, left, right, so started walking the heli as Nuttcaze suggests. Nearly 1/2 way through my second 1000mah battery, the tail started acting a little funny and I thought I was already burning out my first tail motor. It was starting to drift badly, but if I gave full deflection, it seemed to grab again and react. I landed to check it out when I just happened to look at my transmitter and see that I was down to the last red light before empty! Hey, 4 AA's are a lot easier than breaking out the soldering iron! I do have a spare tail motor in my flight box (already burnt in) just in case.

Maybe someone can tell me, but I hovered for about 7 min non stop, then thought it best to land and check the motors for heat since that's about the max time of the stock battery. The motors were not hot at all, hardly even warm to the touch! Does it have anything to do with my new batteries being 25C? I'm NOT complaining, but it seemed from everything I read that they should have been pretty warm. I know on the stock battery in the past they were warm by the time I had run it out. I just supposed the extra weight of the larger batt would add to stress on the bird and the motors too?

So, LiPo's now back on the charger and hopefully will fly another 25-30 min Sunday afternoon, then again Sunday night. I think it's time to hit the sim again and start working on hovering left and right orientation. I love haivng a full gym to hover in. I'm comfortable hovering up high 15 to 20 feet now. Best of all - no crashes all day! Only bad thing is that my Super Blades did not come in today for the weekend :-(..... Still on my original stock blade with a broken stiffener. Don't see much vibration or issue, so I'll keep flying it until I switch out for the Super Blade or the woodies or if I get my metal stiffener before then. I figure if I can master flight on a banged up bird, when I have her all fixed up it should be that much better?

Way to go . If you want to ensure whether the tail still alive, unplug the main motor, push the throttle stick up a little bit, then give the rudder a full right. And watch the spinning speed of the heli. If it spins slowly, ur tail motor almost dies. This is the way that I test my tail motor Hope it's helpful for you. One more thing is remember to maintain the main motor by adding few oil drops. It helps to lengthen the motor's life. Keep up your work

Yeah, I never lost tail effectiveness, it just wandered as I wondered. It was easy to tell she wasn't dead. I was just starting to notice some throttle jitteriness too right when I set it down. Once my transmitter had new batteries, she was as stable as a rock once again!
