Question, I am skidding all over the floor. Is this because I'm not lifting off fast enough and getting above the ground effect? I don't have that much trouble on the sim (fms)

No problem. First of all, what heli are you trying to fly?
Are you using training gear?

you'll get alot of ground effect if you're under 2ft, I'm guessing thats the problem

OK, I'm trying to fly a HBFP with training wheels. WHen I fly my co-ax I just punch it right up so I'm thinking its a confidence problem like you are indicating.

I'm guessing that you are scooting off to the left. The HBFP and most single rotor helis will do that at lift off. If I'm right, try giving the heli a bit of right and slight backward
cyclic when lifting off, but don't try to trim it out. That goes away once you get out of ground efect.

OK, so there was no wind this am (0430 navy time)(Nuttcaze you are going to have to learn that ) So taking my life in my hands I went outside, determined to go for broke and punched her up through the back wash! Faster than I could react she went left (like Donnie said) and back. Tried it several times same deal. the last time the vibration came back (refer to www.rcdiscuss site) and shook the landing gear right out of the holders. Also had the training gear on. I had the battery as far forward as it would go. Thinking it still was tail heavy I have added two pieces if cf rod to the front of the battery support brackets (after swapping them around) so I can move the battery still farther foward. Right now I am going to review Nutts vid on the HB setup. Stay tuned for next go round.

Yep. It sounds to me like you might have a set up problem. There are so many things that can cause your problem. Just start from the begining and carefully check everything for adjustment. Won't take but a few minutes. A couple of things that are easy to miss. Make sure center hub is not broken or cracked and also that the flybar fit thru the center hub is a very loose fit. If it is tight, that will bind the rotor head and cause all kinds of flight problems.

Hello chiefqm! I think your problem is a set of out of balance blades, or a bent main shaft. Have you made sure your flybar paddles are correct? The vibration is in the head not the balance. As far as your skids falling of with the training wheels on(I call them that as well!), yes super glue them! If you have crashed and replaced your blades, there is only a one in 10 chance they are balanced!

HEY. thanks for the response. I have checked the blade balance and it is good, the blades sit level balanced on two water glasses, the fly bar paddles are the same distance out from the head, although I have not removed the motor and main rotor and checked the balance if the fly bar, and with nothing above the retaining collar the main shaft runs true. The helo will be running smoothly then all of a sudden it will start shaking and then it wil smooth out. Weird.

I'm wondering if the vibration comes after you change the speed of the motor, slowing or speeding up the motor, or even a change in altitude or direction. You know how the heli will shake for just a moment when you first spool it up, before the blades can spin themselves streight with each other. Could be when you speed up or slow down, change altitude or direction, the blades may become out of ballance with each other for just a second or two, causing a momentary vibration. Try adjusting the tightness of the blade grips, either loosen or tighten them, and make sure they are both the same tightness.

check you havn't cracked the frame

Hey Donnie, that sounds like it could be the problem because it does seem to happen when the throttle speed is changed. It has to be something like that, because I have been over the mechanics taking stuff apart and reassembling it, and I can't see anything that is broken or bent. Yesterday I had about 30 seconds of perfectly spot on hover, I couldn't believe it! I looked over at my wife and she gave me a thumbs up. So I know the helo will fly right if she wants to, typical female!
