PostSubject: She Flies!! (some issues?)   Mon Jun 22, 2009 10:41 pm

Got the HBFP for fathers day, and after locating the charger, she got her first pack run thru this evening outside.
Heres the setup:

balanced main blades still attached to blade grips.
Tracked blades, bent one up a bit to help
balanced rear rotor, piece of tape.
Tail motor heatsink installed
flybar paddles level with control frame
xheli training gear affixed

2 neodymium magnets in the nose (1 inside, 1 out) to add front weight.

I got her to hover for about 5-10 seconds before i got nervous and put her down.

She shakes like a wet dog in the air...I dont know what else to look at? I thought it was ground wash, but even 4-5 ft up it shakes so fast its blurry to look at.

Had to use full throttle to keep her airborne. Pack was full according to the included charger. orange78

She is also nosing right, even max left rudder trim and i still had to hold the stick a bit left to compensate. Maybe a gain adjustment? but what?

Not bad for my first ever flight, no crashes, orange74 set it back down (somewhat) gently each time. Not quite like the clearview sim...
Screw drugs, this is addictive already.

Sounds good, and you are right. It is addictive. But in a good way.

Be aware that the training gear won't cause vibration, but it will greatly magnify any vibration you may have in the heli. If you are practicing over a pretty smooth area, you can take the balls off of the training gear and that will reduce the vibration.

Also be sure the flybar paddles are equal distance from the rotor head. This is very important.

Hope this helps a bit.

Yes, IMO most of your vibration problem is coming from the training gear. I don't use it.

If this is your first heli ever, you might want to try Lama v3 first to get used to controls and orientation issues, then upgrade Lama v3 to get it's control response in line with HBFP. I found 3/4 of the battle with HBFP was learning to think faster and barely breath on the control sticks.

I can get her up there, and mostly stable...Im just concerned about having to jack the throttle to keep it there. should i leave the throttle trim tab all the way down when flying or just to start the heli up?

It doesn't matter where you put throttle trim. But when you start up heli it can't be higher than at center. I am flying with throttle trim at center gen150
P.S. Red through eflightwiki. It will help you alot! http://www.eflightwiki.com/eflightwiki/index.php?title=HoneyBeeFP

Just for some where else to look, I chased a vibration for quite a while with my HB. finally it seemed to go away when I replaced the swash plate. Good luck, they are a sweet little bird when set up properly. navy1

Second flight tonight.

Got a 5 second hover in a 5x5ft box tonight, but i couldnt get her to climb above 2 or 3 feet, even on max throttle. I wonder if the lipo isnt charging up all the way, but the light for done is on. I re-tracked the main blades towards the end of the pack, with slightly better results, but i didnt want to push the pack too hard. No crashes cept a tail blade ding on the garage door.

Any advice?

Thanks for the tips, i might if i ever need to replace the bar. I am going to rig a front seated battery holder tonight to counteract the back drfit, and I touched the gain just a hair + to hopefully keep the tail "locked". Most of my concern now is having to use full throttle to keep it hovering.

PostSubject: Hover trim   Thu Jun 25, 2009 2:32 pm

Don't know much about the HBFP but if your using a Esky TX, Look for a HOV.TRIM know... should be on top next to idle up , one side or the other. When/if you find it try turning one or the other for more Hovering pitch and you might not need full T. to hover..

There arent any side switches on the stock TX, just a hold up switch for a trainer. Pretty bare bones.

So there is no knob that says HOV. TRIM? I guess that must only be on CP TX's
Sorry!
