I have an HBFP V1, and it is in my opinion the best way to learn. No, single rotor helis do not fly like coax helis, they are much more difficult to fly.
If you get an HBFP, just be sure to take it slow, use a training gear at first and be patient with the heli and yourself, and you will be hovering it in no time. I'm using mine now to learn nose in hovering.

Also, I never used this, but I understand from a lot of the members of RADD's school of flight is a very good way to learn.
