Installing new BEC Empty
PostSubject: Installing new BEC   Installing new BEC I_icon_minitimeTue Oct 13, 2009 3:29 pm

I have a Hobbywing 3A BEC on my ESmart and I have about 80 flights on it with no problem, but I use 5S batts so far, but I may want to use 6S later, so I took Nuttcaze advice and I purchaced a Hobbywing 8A that I want to install.

My question is:

I assume that I just need to solder the new on to the ESC batt leads just like the old one and plug it into my receiver and I'm good to go.

Is that all there is to it?

Is there anything else I need to do or change any setting on anything?

Thanks guys,

Great, I'll change it out and put the 3A on my Belt CP. This is the one I have. Is this what you have?

Does the on/off switch cut off power to the motor and everything, or just the servos and rec?

Yup DD.. I think the switch kills everything!! It is on the "E" I have for sale and I haven't flown it in a while so I'm not positive but I think it kills everything..!!

That would be great if it does. That is also the BEC I got to use on the Bell 47. That feature would be very helpfull with that as I've decided to use 2 batts in series on it.

Hi Donnie,
Switch will kill everything except ESC, because it will be powered by the main battery.

P3,
Just want to be sure I understand. It will kill power to receiver, which means the servos will not operate with the switch off. The ESC gets it's signal from the receiver. Does that mean the motor will not spin up when the switch is off as well?

If it is good ESC it shouldn't spin up :giggle: . But for safety reason, I would just unplug battery
P.S. Thanks Donnie for the advice spinning up blades on esmart, before turning on motor. It is the best soft start :bigthumb:

Yeah, that works good (hand spin up).

The reason I'm wondering about the BEC switch is I'll be using 2 batts on my Bell 47 and I'm hoping with the switch off, everything will be off while I plug up the batts, and then I can use the switch to power everything up together.

I'll know soon enough.

Thanks,

Thanks FD, I appreciate that. I've got the same BEC that I'm gonna put in my E, but it will be with a differant ESC (80A OPTO). Then I'm gonna take the 3A that I've been using on the E and put it on my stock Belt CP v1. Hope that will help to protect the stock 25A ESC I've heard so many horror storys about. (although I've got over 225 flights on it with no problems)

I hope to get it all done in the next week or so(except for motor in the Bell)

Today I'm having a bunch of friends over for a big cook. This is the menu believe it or not:

Chitterlings
Chicken livers (fried)
Chicken gizzards (fried)
Chicken hearts (fried)
Eastern North Carolina Style BBQ (the only TRUE BBQ)
Cole Slaw
Navy Beans
Collards
Baked Corn Bread
Cracklin Bread
Hushpuppies
Chicken Tenders (for the wimps)
Develed Eggs
Chocolate Delight
Cocanut Creame Pie

Can you tell I live in North Carolina?

Wish you all could be here. It'll be fun.

Glad to have your voice on the forum again, been a couple of days.

PostSubject: Curves!!   Installing new BEC I_icon_minitimeSat Oct 17, 2009 11:36 pm

OK here are my curves for the "E".. Most of my helis fly with the same numbers.. Please remember that the throttle curve needs to be set too.. Also!!! PLEASE REMEMBER!! I take off and land with these curves,, So you must keep in mind that when lifting off or landing you can SLAM your heli into the ground with the smallest stick movement!!!!

Pitch..0 stick..35% 1/4 stick..37.5% 1/2 stick..75% 3/4 stick..87.5% Full stick..100%
Throttle 0...0% 1/4..72.5 1/2....87.5 3/4..95.0% Full..100

Keep in mind, I consider these to be aggresive numbers and you could soften them up some and still get the same affect. Mainly the throttle could come down by about 5....
Please remember that censored is gonna happen between 0 and half stick and you will need to get used to it, especially the sound as you are going to lift off..!!!!

No sweatsky. It will probably be early next week before I install it on my E. I've got all the electronics installed on the Bell, and I'm gonna bind the TX tomorrow and start setting up the mechanics, but it will still be awhile before the motor is in.
