Subject: esc 30amp volcanoe series problems? Mon Jul 27, 2009 1:08 am
Hey guys, just quick question. I really like this esc. Somehow, as I spin up the heli , I'm getting a good spin and good power, but after about 2 min, it seems like its losing rpm, it still flies but I think its not getting enough power I have changed batts on it rand new ones but after 2min the rpm slows down. I never had this problems with my other helis except for this one. Could it be the esc? Thanks for the input you guys.

What heli are we talking about?
I am having almost exact same problem with my Belt CP v2 stock. I hope the 30a Volcano ESC will fix my problem, then its a bad Esky 450 motor.

any way to pop an ESC off one of your other helis and try swapping it, then you'll know real quick if its the ESC or something else.
Yo suriano, how's your rpm? I've changed batts onmine. But tghe same thing, ill try putting new esc later and see if that will fix my probs. By the way, nice flying.

it"s the esc guys. Well i have that esc for quite a while so i'm upgrading it to 40 amp volcanoe series. Just ordered one at hoobypartz for 22 bucks. Thanks pilots.

Glad you found the problem. How long you had that ESC before it sounds like it over heating? I am replacing my Belt CP v2 with the 30a volcano and just wondering if I should have got stronger ESC.

Hey guys, I'm gonna offer a small bit of advice here and even if you never even read anything else I write read and take this..... Go with the 40A!!!! You will not be sorry and you will NOT have this to worry about ever again!!!
To Fatdaddy , I will definitely take your advice. I will be upgrading all my 450's to 40 amp esc. In this case, I have to order 6 more escfor my exi's. I'm just a big fan of exi. Thanks FD

Hey Guys, I was just surfing the forum and came across your post.I have given the ESC topic a lot of thought and research over the last few days and after chatting with people on the forum i have found out that using a swithing BEC seems to be better as far a heat and power consumption goes. I have a Belt CP V2 and i am running a Volcano 40A OPTO ESC which doesn't have a BEC included. Then i use a 3A UBEC which soilders on to the power wires of the 40A OPTO Volcano ESC and the BEC run seperatly. Doing this make the ESC run a lot cooler and if for some reason the ESC failed i would still have power going to the receiver and the servos to do an Autorotation in case of emergency. I bought ESC from Hobbypartz for a reasonable price
Just thought i would add my 2 cents worth

yes you are correct!!! The only drawback is the added weight and space! Weight is minumal I guess!! I would like to know just how much cooler and how it is measured.. Seems to me that my OPTO's run HOTTER than my Platunim's but figure it due to diff. config. On my "E" I run an 80A OPTO and use a REC. battery pack and the ESC still runs hot as a mother!! where as on my G5 I run a 40A Platunim which has a BEC and I run a 6S/1300 battery and it does not get hot at all...So Its really hard to compare less you use the same heli and change parts on it.. Problem is on a 450 class space is liminted.
