Hey all!

I bought this UBEC for my HKH-500. It comes with an ON/OFF switch that switches the output to the receiver. Is anyone using such a switch on their UBEC?

In theory it could be used to shutdown the heli. Although the ESC would still be powered, it would not drive the motor as long as there is now signal from the Rx.
But I am wondering whether it is a smart/safe thing to do. Or should I just cut off the switch and solder the wires together?

I would like a switch, as the connectors I use are a very tight fit.
Your thoughts on this one please.

I have a switch on the BEC I am using on my Bell 47 build, but I'm not finished with the build yet. I also have the same BEC for my ESmart, but I haven't installed it yet. I'll let you know what I thiunk when I try it out.

I just bought one of those also, DON’T use the switch with all the dirt from being outside and heli vibration it will either fail, or a bad connection will generate noise interfering with your receiver.

PostSubject: Clever design, NO connection on the switch means power on the Rx   Anyone the ON/OFF on a UBEC. Is it a safe/wise thing to do? I_icon_minitimeThu Oct 29, 2009 2:29 pm

I cut off the switch as I decided not to use it. Soldered the wires together, only to find out that the UBEC does not give power. Unsoldered the wires and hey presto, power!

So when there in NO connection on the switch, the UBEC provides power to the Rx. Clever design!!! :bigthumb:

This makes it more safe to use the switch.

I've always looked at it like this, they've been making ESC's and BEC's for a long time without switch's so there must be a good reason for it. And because of that I don't use a switch Crazysmile

Switch is good thing for gassers, but on electric helis I wouldn't use it. Better just unplug main battery
