Charger auto cut off

Hey all,

When I set up the charger and let it do it's thing it charges away. The manual states when the voltage reaches 4.2vapprox it changes from constant current to constant voltage, The constant voltage allows the battery to dictate how much current the charger should deliver. Which seems fare

However take for instance the 11.v 800mah battery for the HB.

It starts off set for 11.1v 800mah 0.8 charge rate.

When it gets to 12.6v this drops away but it keeps charging finally cutting off at 12.635 Each cell is at 4.21V 4.21V 4.21V

Everything I have read tells me the max charge is 12.6Volts or 4.2volts per cell, do not charge over this.

Do you reckon the charger faulty allowing the battery to get this high do you reckon? Do others see this high a reading on their batteries?

The battery does not get hot or puff out, no marks on the battery

\I think you are good to go. I wish mine did that. It usually cuts off at about 4.15v per cell. The batts seem fine though.

The 2nd battery is on now and doing the same.

Just out of curiosity can you link 2 batteries together each of 11.1v 800mah and charge them as a 6cell 22.2V? would the mah still be 800 or would it be 1600 I cannot for the life of me remember?

My other question would be do people struggle as I do with Deans connectors? I find them very awkward, the Align battery came with a very easy connector but I cannot find what type it is, I am considering changing the deans to it.

I think::

If you connect two 11.1v, 2200 mAh batts in series , it will yield 22.2v, 2200 mAh.

If you connect two 11.1 v, 2200 mAh batts in parallel, it will yield 11.1 v, 4400 mAh.


I think this is correct, but maybe some one else will chime in.

I'm sure you can charge two batts of same v and mAh rating, but I'm not sure of the hook up. Again some help from the peanut gallery would be good.

Yes, Deans connectors can be a pain in the butt, when new they are hard to connect and disconnect, but they are reliable. After being used for awhile, they get better.

The Deans is a pain in the butt, especially as you can see the sparks as you are trying deperately to connect it, can't do the ESC any good.

The other battery I have has EC3 connectors (think they are common on Eflight), as good as Deans or not do you find? Have not used in the heli, but real easy to connect to the charger.

Donnie D is correct. Voltage in series is added, current is constant. Voltage in parallel ia constant, current is added. My Thunder A6 says not to charge more than 1 at a time.
When you plug in the dean's connector, hit both contacts at the same time. This will stop the arcing. I put some silicon spray on mine and ust the blank dean's from my thunder a6 to loosen then up. They are really tight when new.

The voltage indicated at the charger is not always the correct indication. My charger (eXtreme) shows on the first cell 4.19 and on the others 4.20. Only on the 950 packs. On the 4000 pack it shows 4.20 4.20 4.20. Maybe your charger is not fine tuned at the factory. So 4.21 is probebly 4.20 as in my case 4.19 is 4.20.

If the number is less than 0.04 off there is no worry. Make sure you always watch when you are charging and when it goes above 4.20 or 4.21, just interupted the charger.
