| Subject: n00biie questions about 2-channel Heli... Wed Aug 26, 2009 11:07 pm | |
| I'm old school, such as Control line gas planes and single channel Rc planes from the late 60's early 70's...
I haven't messed around with those since then (70's) and a friend sent me a 2-channel S Double Horse 9083 Electric RC Helicopter...
After looking closely at it it looks like it's made from Esky parts just assembled by another company... First thing I noticed was the Tail Rotor was not at a 90-degree angle but off a bit so I straightened that and the stabiliser ahead of it was off a few degrees also so I fixed that... Not sure if they were set that way to Compensate for it wanting to tip to the left or not.... It did that even before I messed with the Tail Rotor and Stabiliser...
For some reason the Joystick for the tail rotor is backwards, i.e. push it to the right, the tail goes to the right, instead of the Nose going right... I took a part the Transmitter and I thought maybe I could flip the Joystick 180 but the way they made it the contacts have to touch the circuit board so that's out of the question... (Damn Chinese Manufacturing!!!)... hahaha
I also noticed this Exhaust Muffler which I thought was funny because this is Electric so no need for that other than realism I guess... I have no clue what it was for so I popped it off and opened it up only to find a half inch metal rod about a quarter inch in diameter... If they think that would be useful as a balancing help or something I myself kinda doubt it, but I put it back on...
So anyways I've been doing 360's on the carpet and reving it up just to see how it responds for a few days... I kinda doubt this thing will even fly unless I hand launch it or something...
When it gets reved up enough to take off it wants to tip over to the left most of the time, I've tried "Twitching" the tail rotor but I don't know if that's gonna work out doors or not...
Anyways for the $32 he spent I guess I can learn on it but I don't see this thing doing any Hoving and such so I may go with a 2009 Esky Belt CP V2 6CH RC Remote Control 3D Electric Helicopter CCPM RTF in a few months after I kinda get used to controlling a heli...
Any ideas guy??? Think I can do some tweaks and get this thing to Hovier and maybe take off straight up???
Thanks,
Keith | |

| Hi Keith, and welcome to the forum. I believe you said this is a 2 channel heli. If it is then probably you have only a throttle control stick on the left side of the transmitter, and a yaw or tail control stick on the right side of the transmitter. If this is the case, I hate to tell you, but you would be better off to use it as a display model. If you plan to get at all serious about flying RC helicopters, you need to go ahead an get a 4 channel, fixed pitch heli like the Esky Honey Bee Fixed Pitch for a trainer to learn on. On a 4 or more channel transmiter, you will have throttle and yaw control with your left stick, and cyclic (move forward and backward and slide right and left) control on the right stick. So as you can see trying to fly a 2 channel heli would be very bad as you would be training yourself wrong and developing muscle menory wrong by having yaw control on the right stick. If you decide you would like to get a heli similar to the one I described, me or someone on the forum can help direct you to some of the online hobby stores that carry them, and we will be more than happy to help you by answering any questions you may have. Also go thru some of the forums here such as the info you will find under the "4 channel fixed pitch" section. Some very valuable info there. Hope this helps a bit, Donnie D | |

| Hi Donnie...
I kinda figured it was a lost cause when I first fired it up....
If the 4ch your talking about are the coaxial indoor ones I kinda really want to go with a 2009 Esky Belt CP V2 6CH RC Remote Control 3D Electric Helicopter CCPM RTF...
I figure if I'm gonna want to drive a Mercedes or something near it I should get a Mercedes.,..hahahaha
I know that would be a huge step up from beginer but like Nut says, practice practice pratice and I'd be doing a lot of that before I ever took it outside... And I'm sure I'd prolly need to do baby steps with it for months until I'm ready to go out and fly... One feature I like about it is the Auto-Rotation....

| The heli I was talking about is a single rotor fixed pitch heli. It is not a coax. I don't recommend those. The HBFP flys the same way as a CP heli, but is much simpler and easier to repair and set up, and it take crashes very well. It is probably the best trainer heli you can buy. You certainly can start off with a CP heli if you like, but I wouldn't recommend it. I gaurantee you are going to crash when you first start learning, and like I said, the FP heli will be easier on you and your wallet to repair. Read thru this thread and view the videos before you make up your mind. Trust me. The HBFP is a great little heli to start out on and no matter how far you progress, you'll allways want to have one around. I have a Belt CP V1, an E-Smart 600, and just today I recieved a Century Bell 47 kit to start a scale build, and I still flew my HBFP 3 times today. I'm using it to learn nose in hovering and flight. https://myrcguidesforum.forumotion.net/4ch-fp-and-co-axial-helicopters-f7/e_sky-honeybee-fixed-pitch-guide-t12.htmDonnie D

| Okay Donnie, I just ordered it... Thanks...
I'm sure I will be spending more here in the future on something better but what the heck, the Honey Bee looks like the best place to start...
I'll use the 9083 to experiment on and see if I can get it to fly... hehehe
Thanks for your help!!!
Keith...
I hate how all these online Hobby Shops kill you on the shipping!!!! hehe

| I think I'll play with it for a few weeks then get the batteries... $34 for shipping kinda killed the battery idea... P.S. Would I have to buy another charger for those batteries??? | |

| When you get them and the heli, get back with me and I'll show you a super simple way to mount them that is easy and will make the center of gravity perfect. Donnie D [/quote] Hey Donnie, could you make that post anyway??? That is my biggest problem with the HBFP is center of gravity, I have a stock bird with battery in stock location and a lot of weight on the front skids to balance it (starter shims x5). I had tought about installing it under the 4-1 but I am still crashing a lot (but having a lot of fun at it) and don't want to break the frame at the 4-1 (it is zip tied like nutts rec.). I have looked and looked but every picture of the battery location in here that I can find has the super skids on it Thanks for any help I can get | |

| This method of mounting the battery is so simple, a lot of folks may dismiss it as a bad idea, but I've been using it for a couple of months now. I use lipo's so I don't know how well it would work with the stock NiMih batt. When I first got my HBFP I went ahead and installed Super Skids which come with a mount. Later I removed the Super Skids and installed Extreme Skids which do not have a mount. All I did was put a small piece of velcro on the inside bottom of my canopy and the other part of the velcro on one side of my battery. Just tuck the batt inside the canopy, plug it in and you're good to go. Install the batt with the wires toward the back and to the left (port) side of the heli. I no longer have to remove the canopy to install or remove the battery as I did with the Super Skids and the battery is perfect for making the center of gravity right. This should also work fine if you are still using the stock skids. If I can get this picture posting problem I'm having resolved, I'll post a couple of pics, but it is real simple to do. Donnie D Keith' Yes you will have to get a new charger for the lipos, but Deal Extreme sells the standard Esky lipo charger for about 8 bucks, so for about 25 bucks you can get two 7.4v, 900 mAh batts and a charger. That ain't bad and the HBFP will perform much better with the lipos. Also sorry about the high shipping. Both Hobby 4 Less and Bananna Hobby have pretty high shipping, but the HBFP V1 is getting pretty scarce, so you don't have a lot of choices. | |

| I didn't know that, but you can still get one elsewhere for about $15. Is that about right P3. Keith, if you decide to get lipos and can't find a charger, let me know. Donnie D | |

| You can also buy batts from hobbyking Battery 1000mah 2s 20C 4.39$ *2=8.78$ Charger 5.95$ Shipping to USA 12.12$ Grand total: 26.85$ So you will get two batteries and charger (but you will need your own 12V 1.5A or more AC adapter for charger) Update: It looks that dealextreme has mystery charger which is identical to esky one (except aluminum housing) So you can buy two batteries and charger for 23.23$ from dx | |

| Thanks Donnie , I hadn't thought of that, and yes I'm using lipo's... How does the canopy hold up under crash stress with the battery mounted to it? | |

How does the canopy hold up under crash stress with the battery mounted to it? One thing you can do is to get the HBK II canopy, its thicker and stronger and the same size as the HBFP canopy.

How does the canopy hold up under crash stress with the battery mounted to it? No problems yet. I posted a couple of pics under the tips and tricks sticky last night. Donnie D
